The nation has been captivated and horrified by the murder of four University of Idaho college students. I will never understand murdering any of them, but especially not the two hot blondes.
What DOES the affidavit say? Glad you asked!
Here are the facts that jump out from a prosecutor perspective:
The dog not barking. Literally. On page two, the dog co-owned by Kaylee Goncalves was in her room. Dogs bark at unfamiliar sounds down the road - this dog did not go NUTS while four people were being turned into human sushi?
Both girls were found dead in Madison Mogen’s bed. This might explain why the dog was not barking, although seems odd the dog did not hear ANYTHING given the proximity. Did the killer put the bodies in the same bed? Was blood found in both rooms? Did the killer know the girls liked to snuggle together when drunk? Was there more to that story? Two hot blondes in the same bed, no one wants to talk about this?
The knife sheath next to Mogen’s bed. Defendant was a grad student studying criminology and left THAT behind? What was his rush to leave evidence that will most likely lead to his execution? Seems odd and too on the nose.
Everyone was most likely awake and alive at 4:12 am…and dead by 4:20 am. We will come back to this.
Dog FINALLY starts barking around 4:17 am. Is this what spooked the killer or killers to leave?
One of the surviving roommates almost perfectly ID’s Bryan Kohberger. Around 5’10, athletic build, not muscular, bushy eyebrows. That’s a pretty solid ID for 4 am. Look at the dude - it’s spot on.
Pg. 6 - dude is driving around his own car in the neighborhood where he will eventually commit the murders. On page 7, the same car is seen an hour ish earlier driving around his campus. The car is then seen AGAIN back on the WSU campus around 5:30 AM. What a terrible criminal.
They started following and looking into Kohberger on November 29th. That’s incredible to find a murder suspect in two weeks. That police department took a lot of underserved crap. I’ve tried ten year old murders, and they were not in custody for ten years.
Kohberger had his phone off between 3 and 5 am on November 13 aka date of the murders…but then turned it on while heading home. How stupid IS this guy?
Kohberger GOES BACK TO THE CRIME SCENE AROUND 9 AM WITH HIS CELL PHONE ON (pgs. 13-14).
Criminal “mastermind” Bryan Kohberger had his cell phone on while surveilling that residence AT LEAST TWELVE TIMES between June 2022 to around December 2022. Horrific facts for the family of the victims. He stalked and preyed on them. He’s also one of the worst criminology students of all time. Guy didn’t know there are cameras and cell towers EVERYWHERE in 2022? What a dumb dumb. See pg. 16.
DNA testing came back that trash from Kohberger’s dad was about 100% related to the killer’s DNA.
Analysis from state perspective:
Can State ID the defendant? There’s an in-person ID and mountains of circumstantial evidence. The in-person ID is crucial. Defense will work to pick apart how 5’10, bushy eyebrows could be many people. Did all of those “other people” also have their DNA found at the crime scene? This is a great factual case for the State. You could train a monkey or first year misdemeanor prosecutor to be able to ID the defendant.
Jurisdiction - was the defendant in that area? This is where the DNA and in-person ID are important. You have the car in the area around the time of the murders, but no one can ID him as being in the car. Strong circumstantial evidence, but you want a bow on this type of case - DNA and ID tie it tight.
Theme of the case: predator stalking his prey. Easy, simple to follow theme. Juries want themes. Defendant was near the house TWELVE TIMES prior to the murders. He watched them, he knew them, he murdered them. Only caveat: what’s the motive? Why them, why THAT house? Still an extremely strong theory and theme of the case.
Mountains of circumstantial evidence. The car on cameras everywhere before and after, him going BACK TO THE SCENE OF THE MURDERS hours later, the missing front license plate then being changed days after the murder. Remember, this was only to get the arrest warrant. One only has to show probable cause to arrest someone. There is more than probable cause in this affidavit.
Glaring questions:
1. Did this guy commit FOUR murders in eight minutes when most of the victims were alive? Feels like he had help.
2. The Dog NOT Barking. SOMEONE knew the girls. Why was it so quiet? There is evidence one girl was playing with her dog and the other received delivery food, both around 4 AM. MAYBE they passed out immediately. Go back to the affidavit - “I’m here to help you.” Something feels off.
3. DNA being at the scene. This can PROBABLY be answered away by “Criminal mastermind” Bryan Kohberger keeping his cell phone on while casing the place, as well as when he came back HOURS AFTER the murder.
BTW, can you imagine you murdered four people, come back…and no police? What a mind fuck.
Prediction:
1. Kohberger found guilty on all counts, sentenced to death
2. He either dated/knew one of the girls well or there was SOME connection. Maybe I’m missing something and this will look stupid, but I can’t get over the complete silence during four murders.
